Probably. My dictionary says 今晩は　(konban wa). The dictionary is the Random House Japanese-English English-Japanese Dictionary by Seigo Nakao, a native of Nagasaka who is currently a Professor of Japanese Studies at Oakland.

I think the problem is that Japan is actually a pretty big country and that there isn’t really a universally accepted version of Romanization. There was a big push for it after the war, but Japanese is just too ambiguous in Romanized (or kana) form and the effort died away.
I was talking to a fellow from Korea yesterday who said there is a trend there, too, to move away from kana back to more use of kanji. Although it is an effort to learn the kanji, it does make communication easier and more precise.

Tae Kim has upgraded his site to include more aspects of the Japanese language, as well as help on technical issues, such as writing kanji and kana on the Internet.

BTW, the writing above is the first that I've done directly in a browser. Previously, I wrote in MS Word, then copied and pasted. I'm so happy.

I just registered at Tae Kim's site and looked around. It is impressive, but it is clear you need to know your kana and some kanji. People post questions and answers in Japanese writing. There is English around the Japanese words, but there doesn't seem to be any Romanized Japanese. Personally, I think I need a lot more practice here before going there.

If you do decide to dive into the deep end of the pool, I have the same username and ava there as here.
