got a simpler or "lighter" program that works well? i dont like it when a single program eats up 40-75% of my computers memory while operating.

Well the time it takes to convert depends on the options you pick and what codec your using, if you want more compression with quality it will have to take longer.
edit: Although memory could be the programs fault, how much RAM does your comp have? |

Well you have 4Gb as well as a 2.2GHZ processor that's pretty good. And in order to encode right you might have to have it eat that much up. Though Any Video Converter is fairly good on memory and CPU as well as speed.

hmm... can you provide me with a link for 'Any Video Converter'?
and about subtitles... there have been a few occasions where the conversion from mkv to avi has caused the subtitles to disappear. any idea as to why? ~~~~~~~~~~

Err Idk when I convert my videos the actual encoding process uses 70Mb...
Given thats not with a GUI app I can't imagen that taking up that much more.. Edit: The subs are in a file in the mkv and not actually burned on the video, so you need to extract the subtitle file out of the video. Last edited by whaevr; 07-01-2009 at 09:28 PM. |

yeah, mine only "uses" 80 megs of memory, but it holds as much as 70% of my cpu.
