I honestly don't see why people hate vista so much.
Anyways if your running a 64 bit version of vista try this codec pack.
[Only registered and activated users can see links. ]
And make sure your media player is also 64-bit compatible if not then I'll encode it to .rm for you. Personally I use MediaCoder 64 bit on my laptop and plain MediaCoder on my desktop among others it really depends on my mood I get the results regardless.
Hope that helps.

Re: Encoders Club

hey, Savage here, wondering if i could get an invite to the club, a little bit about me:

I normally use Virtualdubmod with my own avisynth script templates in order to encode files via ffdshow and also allow me the flexibility of choosing my own codecs or codecs that have been requested.

Most of the time i do rmvb -> avi -> psp mp4 encodes for people.

rmvb source because a psp requires low resolution, the encode to avi in order to retain 1500+ bitrate and finally psp format because most requests i receive are for the psp, note this is the first time i've ever done this online, normally it's jsut friends and whatnot that require it, thought i could help out people on niho i guess =P. Optimum filesize is around 170~250mb per episode, with a 1500+ bitrate.

i can also mux and remux mkv's, examples are a 1080p japanese dual audio final fantasy complete, remuxed with english soft subs and english dual audio split from a 720p english dub supplied by a friend.

Currently learning more about encoding, and increasing my familiarity with codecs and avisynth. Hoping i can learn more from members in this club ^_^. (i need to learn how to reduce filesize when encoding to mpeg-4 Xvid, via codec settings through virtualdubmod or via avisynth idk, note that all my encodes will have over 1500+ bitrate quality unless a lower bitrate such as 500kbps is requested).

Will be creating a video guide on virtualdubmod some time in the future, but I currently have exams, and I probably won't be free until december.

Computer Specs:

Operating System: Windows Vista™ Ultimate (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 3326MB RAM (note actual is 4gb, but i'm on 32-bit)
Page File: 1856MB used, 6387MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 11

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Display Memory: 1902 MB
Dedicated Memory: 495 MB
Shared Memory: 1407 MB

and my list of codecs (as in dxdiag 7.00.6002.18107 32bit Unicode, don't bother opening if you don't care, because it's a long list =P)

Spoiler!

if the encode codec is not listed then i usually just download it, encode it and delete the codec (i try and clean up codecs that aren't used regularly)

probably won't really be active until decemberish =P

Thanks,
Savage

EDIT: oh and i forgot to mention i also have Sorenson Squeeze 4.5 available as encoding software, however i haven't really used it due to its limitations on input, if anyone primarily encodes using Sorenson Squeeze feel free to pm me and give me a basic walkthrough =P

Sure welcome to the club!
Also it isn't necessary to use low resoluiton source on the PSP as PSP's support 720x480 16:9 AVC/H.264/X264 video.
If you need me to show you I can.
Sorenson squeeze sounds famiiliar but I've never used it before.
And OMG why do you need that many codecs.

A codec for every possible situation lol xD, and because i do things through virtualdubmod, which can output anything i want, unlike gui based encoding software that are released to only support native codecs.

now to add encoders club to my sig...

~Savage

p.s. yea i'm aware that psp can support up to 720x480, but using a really high resolution and downsizing it to that is what i deem as a waste of my time, hence why using sources as close to that resolution as possible is good because you have the maximum resolution on the psp, with smallest filesize and no real loss in quality (of course there is always a loss in quality when encoding something unless i release it in flac and a lossless crazy bitrate for the video, which removes the whole point of encoding) ^_^.

....?
Who said anything about using a really high resolution? I usually use standard resolution (720x480)
Really I find I get a whole lot better quality when using a 720 x 480 video unless it was smaller to begin with. But I usually get at least as close to neutral quality loss as possible with he 720x480 size and I usually get about 100mb for the size.
