Re: Death to anime due to Licensed dubbing.
One solution is to buy the DVDs of the anime you like so that you have the option of watching the original voice actors at work, or watching it with English dub so as to be able to fully enjoy the animation without your eyes bouncing up and down.
I've only found about 10% of dubbed anime to be as enjoyable as the original versions with subtitles. Cowboy Bebop probably had the best English cast that I've heard; it was near-perfect. But too mnay sound as if picked up from the Saturday morning cartoon brigade... |

Cowboy Bebop is one. I think Ah! My Goddess (Both the OVA and the TV series) had really good dubs. The worse dubs I have heard thus far is Elfen Lied. Lucy sounded to...high pitch for her character.

well for example one piece dud is horrible, not to mention all the censoring they done on it. T_T It lost completely the anime feeling.

Re: Death to anime due to Licensed dubbing.
if you like anime then download subbed or dubbed by a fansubber groups because they aren't uncensored, don't watch the dubbed on tv, they censured too many scenes that ruins the animes

Re: Death to anime due to Licensed dubbing.
With out dubs, I don't think I'd watch much anime.
I think i'm the odd one out here, but I prefer my anime to be dubbed, I've yet to run into any dubing that I can't stand. The only voice actor that came close to bugging me was the voice of Tina form Ai Yori Aoshi. I think the English voice for Su form Love Hina was Awesome. Sometimes I think I may be missing somthing, and somtimes I think they go to far. Basic terms like sempi for ex dont need to be changed or droped. Most Anime fans understand the basics. But I don't want to spend my time reading the bottom of the screen, and Missing the little things that may be happening on screen. And god forbid the characters start talking really fast, and the subs start flyin by, Better have that pause button handy. In the end I prefer to watch the Dub Version with subs turned on. P.S. Hentai is a diffrent story, lol. I Don't think I've ever seen a good dub there, so I stick to the original audio and subs there. ROFL Last edited by Towel : 04-02-2008 at 08:02 AM. |

Re: Death to anime due to Licensed dubbing.
I love subs since I found out about them and some shows left me in question on how come these lines are so cheezy so I found them in subs they sound so much better and original voices are perfect then the crappy dub. I do admit I still watch dubs but only if there good if not It automically cut off.

Re: Death to anime due to Licensed dubbing.
I cannot stand dubs at all... they disgrace so many things. I cannot stand how companies have the nerve to even dub songs which i find in the biggest insult to the animes they dub. How can you go about with your company taking the same song and getting an amateur to sing that song? For example, in Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad, they took mostly all of the songs and dubbed them into english. Hirabayashi Kazuya, vocalist for Fine Lines (previously Husking Bee) had done such a great job singing Koyuki's parts. But then the dubbers decided to slap him in the face, take the songs that were written by and sung by the Japanese, and let an amateur like Greg Ayres to re-sing them because they cant stand the engrish accent that made the songs what they were. I see most dubbing as an insult to the original.
As for reading subs, ive gotten to a point where i can read subs so damn fast it doesnt bother me and i dont miss a thing from the anime / movie. |
