hmm...

As much as I know, on one of the forums I moderate certain means were take to avoid the same problem. Dunno if it helps, but I'll try...

1) Cleaned topics, where last post was older than "n" months (we picked n=2)
2) Topics got locked after reaching "n" pages and recreated as new ones, starting from quote of first post and few pages from the end (we picked 100 and 10)
3) Users with extremelly low post count (<3) were sent gentle warnings, inactive (didn't post or do anything last 3 months) got warnings as well, those who ignored them, got deleted. We asked to post at least once in next two weeks or reply to the e-mail.
4) Posting a link hurt less than posting a pic. A sticky was posted asking people to post links to pics instead of pics themselves.
5) Cut the sizes of avatars/sigs (please don't do that, its cool as it is, but less would suck)
6) some ads on the bottom of the starting page. Its also possible to get a deal that registered users wouldn't see them, although all limits for ads = less money.
Sticky asking people to check the ads from time to time and support the forum.


I don't really understand though how perv section could put much stress if all files are hosted on megaupload, fileshack, etc... and perv users have to pay some fee, right"? (never checked that option, tho I came here googling for a perv game). Oh, and downloads should probably be kept no matter how old they are, as more downloads = more peole wishing to get them.

havent you made it so you need 10 posts to download (if you havent then do) and make it so people who have under 30 posts will have there account deleted within a month (people might just be posting on the downloads that say you have to post before seeing the links). that should get rid of leachers.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to make it where you need 50 posts to view the download section. Also to stop people from spamming small sentences and such, delete anything that is just spam exe(thx for the upload). It doesn't take a minute to throw down a few sentences about the topic. Anyways I'll see about donating now.

Making it where you need this and that many posts to enter a download section could easily ruin this forum :-/...And I don't think it would help to much seeing has it would cause a hell of alot more spam

Hmm well, i do love the forum, but i'm rarely using the shoutbox, so if i'm not reading this topic i wouldn't know that it was gone. But i know it's eating database, and someday, will be going down because too heavy ;p

hmm.. can't u delete the old topics?.. that should give some space to the server probably so u put back at lest the shoutbox since its so used...

also.. maybe disable some render from the other sections for some time since there are many and we are not going to use them all in one day

Oh Noe's u can't go deleting old posts, coz that'll include old uploads with links that are still valid, i'm buggered if i'm gonna keep on re-uploading the same stuffs over and over again ... just to satisfy ' deleting old posts'
