How to colour Manga Help (Photoshop)
Basically, those who can give me great quality tutorials, support and which programs to use, and maybe some videos on the subject will get 25 rep.
This is for my hopes on colouring the entire MxO manga series, so if anyone could help then we all benefit ^^ Edit - Specific help needed towards colouring a manga panel, for example a page from MxO or Bleach Or Naturo etc. I'm trying for a tut to help me get CG quality colour on these types of pages. ![]() ![]()

Re: How to colour Manga Help (Photoshop)
I'm going to do this based on personal experience. A few years ago I used to color manga scans all the times, for personal purposes mainly, like making sigs and icons as well.
Anyway, I usually use Photoshop CS2 (any of the earlier versions will do too). Since it's a paid program (well, you can always use other methods if you know what I mean) I'd recommend Gimp. ![]() 1. First thing I do is finding a workable manga scan, like this one. Then Select a reference picture of the manga, 'but' with colors. 2. Now with the Polygonal Lasso Tool, select each part of the scan, like hair, eyes, clothes, each of them with a different layer. ![]() 3. Now color it by using the paint bucket tool. ![]() 4. I put my layers in order, like: hair, eyes, clothes and his skin. ![]() 5. Now comes the most important part, each layer must be set to Multiply. ![]() 6. You can also use the Burn tool to give more deep and a natural feel to whichever scan you'll be working on in the future. This is all for Photoshop. ![]() 123n
![]() Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?' 'That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,' 'I don't know where. . .' 'Then it doesn't matter which way you go,' said the Cat. |

Re: How to colour Manga Help (Photoshop)
Personally if you're going to color the entire series I'd use the Pen Tool in Photoshop and set it to Shape Layers. Then I'd trace the inside of your object and make the vector mask the color of your choice and set it to about 75% opacity and then add your shading etc. Then when your done shading play around with the opacity until your happy with the results. Hope that helps.
