I just realized I phrased that really badly. What I meant was:

A summed up way of saying that is 'not to run away'.

hmm, hopeful despair, i like that
the philosophy behind everyone turning to lcl and turning into one is to get rid of emotional, physical, and mental tension from other human beings
but, to me, the reason why shinji rejected turning to a god is, even though people cause tension between themselves, that tension is what makes life life
and thats what i think what the message of eva is, is that tension between people makes life interesting and beautiful

Here's a question for the people who check here ;3 (spoilers for those who haven't seen Eva, but if you haven't....why would you be looking here? XD)

What was the message you got out of Evangelion? Was it one of hope or despair?
I mean, many characters die, the other's are mentally destroyed, other's heartbroken, and everybody else in the world having their bodies dissolved into LCL.

So, as Shinji and Asuka sit upon the beach, overlooking the sea of LCL, what did you think to yourself?

I, myself, believe the message is a sort of 'hopeful despair'. Everything is destroyed, ready to start anew, if mankind chooses to do so.

So, what about you? ^^

the ending to the series is my third favorite ending of all time
ending as in conclusion to the plot, not the ending theme song :P

there is great character vs self tension :D
they are only six episodes each so go check them out
