I'm in my last year of middle school and I'm going to have to choose a new high school in a couple of months.
I basically have 2 choices. One is the local school. I don't even need to do anything to get in. It's really not that great and it doesn't even have lockers -__-" The other is a nationally ranked school (#28 in the U.S.) and it will probably look good for college. But I've heard it's incredibly stressful and the people that I know who go to it now sleep extremely late everyday doing homework and have to get up early because it's relatively far away. I live about 20-30 minutes away from it. Getting into the latter should be simple enough because I'm one of those top students (no not a geek) but the problem is whether or not I'm mentally prepared. I want you guys opinion on which school to choose. |

Try the hard one first....
you maybe have to work harder, but in the futur you'll have a better job, let me put it that way.... when you get into high school you'll have less more problems, cuz you did hard stuff in high school |

Depends what field you want to get into. If your going into something like accounting, the top ranked school may be better. If let say, photography? probably not.
Remember hardwork highschool will get you into good habits and knowledgable on facts on most subjects. But often it is at the cost of creativity. Go to school that fits your personality better. More pressure =/= good result always. |

i found that its not always about what you know and do in high school, its a mixture of who you or your family knows and average grades. me graduated from one of the best private schools in orlando, 1350 SAT (only took it once), 34 ACT (took it twice), 4.38 GPA (4.86 was the best any1 could get due to 4 mandatory non honors/ap/ib classes that you had to take), and 4 honor society memberships, as well as 3 other club memberships, and i got rejected by UF (and i am a legacy too, legacy means at least 1 immediate family member, my father), while 1 person who got barely above 1000 SAT, 2.2 GPA, 1 sport, and 2 clubs got into UF (hes not a legacy) b/c his father knows people in UF. so its shown to me, achievements mean nothing if you dont know the right people. i may be cynical due to my experiences but thats what i found out.

I recommend going to the better school, it will only help you later on in life. Trust me you don’t want to be 35, living with your parents, working at a Best Buy (or some other comparable place) and be kicking yourself for not going to a better school and getting a better education. You’ll most likely spend the rest of your life wondering “What if?” and that will wear on you. I know, both my older brothers failed to complete high school and they paid the price, one of them is still living with us (both of them are over 35).
Don’t take the risk of passing up a good opportunity. When you see that you can get into a nationally acclaimed school, jump on that chance and hold on. I too lived far away from my school (about 45 minutes to an hour) in both elementary and high school. They were both private schools with strict standards and challenging curriculum, but it was all worth it. I know I won’t look back on my life when I’m forty and ask “What if…” PS. I’m not trying to bash on any of the other posters but I would consider the ideas of other people on this subject a little more hesitantly when they are written with poor grammar (no capitalization/poor sentence structure). |

That's what I was sort of thinking. Regretting that I didn't go to the better school. ![]() But I don't know enough about what they look at when you go to college so I need other peoples' opinion. |

Hey kid go for the school that well give you the higher GPA!!!! The better the GPA the higher chance of getting into college. Also if you have a good SAT score too. I found out that if you go to a low ranked school and have a very high GPA and High SAT you are more likely to get into the college that you want. If the easy school is a better GPA go for it. If you can handle the higher ranked school go for it but understand that you may get a mental break down and that you well be competing for the best.
I am American so I know the system too. Personally I would go to the easier school and get a high GPA and HIGH SAT score because that is what they look for. By law, US has affirmative action and children that go to regular schools or improvised schools with high grades have to be accepted into college even if they expansive or a low income family. Plus your a kid, stay a kid, don't have neverous breakdowns in high school because you well be dealing with crappy high school drama. That is reserved for college (midterms & finals) and when you start working (being an adult sucks sometimes). Beside Universities and College in America is the real time when you learn about everything. This is when the education we learned from k - 12 is sugar coated crap. This is when you about uncensored history, how Pilgrams intentionally KIlled Native Americans and knew that we could kill them buy giving them small pox infectecd blankets. (Math STAYS THE SAME BUT MORE INTENSE LEARNING< BUT EAISER THAN HIGH SCHOOL). And how to question and think for yourself form the spoon fed shit of the TV, religion, and our parents. American (NON-RELIGIOUS) Colleges impower students to be free thinkers and if I may say makes you become mature & knowledgeable compared to people who have not gone to college in your peer group. High school in America is teaching you mainly how to socialize and understand how to deal with clicks, but get good grades at the same time to go to college. HOPE YOU GET STRIAGT A's. One more think do allot of volunteer work and clubs if not than lie!! That makes you go higher college want to see that you helped out of your community. And there is a stupid crub but I would not risk you grades becasue people with low score or grade to get accepted but you don't know if your the lucky one.

anyways in IMHO picking a high school really shouldnt be left up to the kid, it should be more up to the parents, though if the kid really wants to go to a private school i think the parents should let him/her go if its best for the kid. what this really comes down to is the fact that whatever high school u end up going to, do ur best get into honor societies if u have a specific college/university u want to get into then check out their statistics on applicants and those who get admitted and make sure u get above the average. also if there is any alumni association for the college go there talk to the people and get recommendations for the university. the high school u go to really isnt the big picture just excel at what you do best, get to know people that can help (dont take advantage of them, just get to know them and treat them with the respect they deserve), and do good on the SAT or ACT or both; and lastly dont forget to have fun in high school so long as it doesnt hurt u academically.
