It's pretty nice, actually; a vast improvement over IE7. Page loading is smooth and fairly fast, and it lags a lot less than IE7.
I may even occasionally use it for general browsing now.

It got me thinking... what if Internet Explorer ceased to be the bugbear that most people see it as?
Of course, nothing would really change, people would still just keep going "hurr hurr, IE sucks" regardless of whether it's actually true or not.

There's the matter of how people seem to think it's cool to be anti-Microsoft for no real reason, and then there's the ones who think using a bundled program is not "leet" enough, or something.
Whatever.
IE remains quite a mediocre browser, to be honest.
But you know, there aren't only two choices (or three, on that matter) out there. You don't have to choose between Firefox, IE and Chrome. There are better browsers than either three ; they're just less popular, although they are of better quality.
I could keep saying that Safari is 2 times faster than Firefox, that won't make anyone stop using Firefox. So in the end you're right ; fanbase is what's important, not the actual browser. Firefox is overrated.

Re: Which Web Browser do you use?

Firefox is not overrated. I have used it for about . . 5 to 6 years and its held strong. Its very customizable, has built in add ons and it runs smooth. I try IE these days and I almost hurl, its SO SLOW and I'm afraid I'll brake something. My dad is a fan of Opera, Although I'm not a huge fan, it confuses me. I have never heard of Safari . . . XD, but this chrome browser sounds cool. ^___^ And its made by Google right? I trust them.

Someone should make an anime based web browser.

There is one, sort of. It's a Firefox (2?) derivative called "Lolifox".

And yes, Firefox IS overrated. It's not the world-ending, ultimate mega-browser people say it is. The reality is that most people start using it because it's the biggest name other than IE and they never even think of changing because they can't imagine anything else. The exact same reason that so many stick with IE, in fact, so these sheep-like Fx users are really no better than the IE users they're so fond of decrying.

Fx's performance is pretty much the same as all the other professionally developed browsers on the market, and therefore isn't specifically "better" than most of them.
(Before anyone starts crying about IE here, let me just point out that my newly installed IE8 is actually faster than the Firefox 3 version I had installed a while back. That's Firefox 3, with NO ADDONS apart from AdBlock Plus and NoScript. Believe it, it's true - the page loading performance is similar, but IE loads images faster and starts up faster. It's probably because my system doesn't have much memory available for Firefox to devour - and that's Firefox's fault for not being efficiently programmed, not my computer's fault for not having enough RAM. Browsers have to be able to run on any system. And Opera still beats them both for speed anyway.)

The only real reason to choose one browser over another when the performance is so similar, is on the basis of interface and feature sets.
And that's why people should try several browsers before using Firefox until the end of time; you might find another that has a better "feel" to it, like I did.

I admit I have no idea why Chrome is suddenly so popular and important, other than the "1 tab-1 process" thing, and the fact it's made by Google. Big woo. Incidentally, Chrome is a Firefox derivative as well, albeit an almost unrecognisable one.
Opera has been around since 1996, made a lot of the innovations that Firefags try to credit to their browser, and IS the third of the big three. Chrome's magically appearing, effortless 10% market share for apparently no reason can go screw the bean-counters.

The fact that Opera is popular in Eastern Europe, India, and - gurk! - the Middle East (an important negative for some people, apparently) is NOT a good enough reason to constantly look down your nose at it.

I am currently searching for Madou Monogatari [魔導物語] games for MSX2, PC-88, PC Engine CD, and Windows/MS-DOS.
Contact me if you can help. +rep will be available, meagre though it may be.

Re: Which Web Browser do you use?

First, i respect all browsers. Peace through the mortals. We're humans and we make mistakes..well sometimes on purpose :D.
I have 3 browsers installed on my pc despite the fact that i know it's not healthy for my poor RetroD <- the pc. Actually i'm not healthy too so it's like As the father so the son.:P
well anyway
i have the IE which allows me to explore the strength of the trojans and my antivirus shield. So through it i'm testing my Anti-V ^^. I only use it for TVonline.
Well, the fox sure is hot, i'm pretty confident it is a female who gives you the perfume of lovetech , you wonder through Wonderland and then suddenly stucks. The fox is in her period. Firefox keeps my username and password because i always forget them .Oh, and i download the whole stuffs from here.
The lady who sings the Opera ( or is it a man? hmm ) has a useful layout and it's easy for me to acces some stuffs, especially when i'm -sake full- -_-"

I can't say which i use the most because all three do their job well. I mean the tasks I assign them, and only I. Also , when my friends are coming they are free to choose.:p

Neither of the 3 are perfect, and each of them concentrates too much on a certain area and messes up other sections

I once installed Chrome but it was at its beginnins and i remember that day i had a whole pack of ciggaretes because it was moving too damn slow. But it wasn't their fault but mine that i actually kept going with it :D

- I prefer older versions because there aren't so many bugs and their browsing power is faster. Also i observed that with their upgradal thing the size ocuppied on the hdd grows and for me that really is a damned problem. Also too many plugins and stuff get my pc woo woo and there are many that i don't really need.

offtopic: same with the phone. i have a mega old celphone. I only need to call and to send sms. It doesn't have a camera or an mp3. I have separate ones.

=> I tend to believe that if you try to asemble a thing with many features it fails. Why? Because none of them are equal and one is affecting the other's quality.

Safari is Apple's web browser : Safari is to a mac what IE is to a PC, except it's much better. If you want the fastest browser around, you may probably want to try Safari.

But if it's it for MAC users, won't it only run on MACs? Or did they put a windows version out? (I run Vista, Unfortunately.)

There is an equally efficient Windows version out (specifically made for Vista), that you can find on Apple's website.

Re: Which Web Browser do you use?

This is just a personal opinion - I don't have any feelings one way or the other about Safari - but I wouldn't trust a speed test conducted by the developer of a browser, that just happens to put that browser on top...

I wanted to try that testing program myself, but you have to go to ridiculous lengths to set it up, so I didn't bother.

But if that was an actual HTML test, then the actual results from real webpages will be very different.
How many webpages do you visit per day that are made of pure HTML, no images, no CSS, no JS... the answer is not many, because hardly any such pages exist.

Not trying to provoke anyone here, just pointing things out, that's all.
But I sure hope you aren't basing your opinion solely on the dubious test results from Apple - made in May 2009 with an outdated testing program that was discontinued at the beginning of 2008.

It's like all the toilet roll brands, each and every one of which says it is "stronger+softer than the leading brand".

And just a completely unrelated note here:
"Firefox" and "Mozilla" are two different things.
"Mozilla Firefox" is the current browser that most people call Firefox.
"Mozilla" is a browser suite that was discontinued. (Seamonkey counts as Mozilla here, as they're practically the same thing... to the best of my knowledge)
Don't vote for Mozilla when you're using Firefox!!

I understand what you're saying. However, when the difference is that huge between speeds, I don't think that this matters : Apple are probably making things look better for themselves, but they can't exaggerate the results this badly. Apple can't even, in their position, go for propaganda and falsified statistics ; Apple isn't exactly a toilet roll brand.
All I know is that every web browser might claim to be the fastest, but Safari is the only one so far that I have personally seen being backed up by actual data. If you'd like to confront such data with other resources on the net, I'd love to see them. (I'll also be checking myself - expecting to see Chrome and Safari close)
