Re: computer help
This thread should be in the TechHeads section?? There should be a Files and Transfer wizard in system tools... that migrates files and settings to your new laptop.

Re: computer help
if you have a flash drive, just use that. or if you have an external HD, thatll be much easier.

Re: computer help
An application is basically a bunch of files that a program uses to run. an example of this is any program you can find. Open a programs folder on your computer and you will see a bunch of files in there that run the application.
So using an external HD or thumbstick/flashdrive or even DVD-RW will work on transferring stuff. |

Re: computer help
i know what you mean and yes, using a flash drive or external HD will work.
decide what app. software you want to transfer. lets say.. rainbow six 3: raven shield haha -go to the C drive or whatever your primary drive is -open program files -find the folder that has your app. in it. in rainbow 6's case, red storm entertainment. -copy and paste it into your flash drive or external. -then plug it into your lappy and paste in your primary drive. it should work although you may need the cd to run it. (assuming its a game or something along those lines) if you need ore help, feel free to ask me ! |

Re: computer help
most applications install files in the windows folder (dll and such) so you can't just copy the files from let's say "Program Files" on another computer. In most cases they won't even start. Now if you have the installer of those applications then yeah a flash drive, external HDD or even a DVD-R would do the job (but from what I understand your case is the first one).

Re: computer help
yea i was surprised to. what happened was i left disc2 back in the motherland and i only had the game disc. so copied and pasted the program files folder into my C: drive and popped in the cd. and it works ! really cool if you ask me haha i tried it on 2 other games as well. one is warcraft 3 frozen throne. all i did was copy and paste and it runs. considering frozen throne is an expansion pack, its pretty surprising indeed. the other game was rainbow six vegas. worked just like raven shield. so i was guessing it might work on other apps. i tried :)

Re: computer help
well games is a different matter. Usually they don't sent data to windows folders especially smaller apps like video converters and such. But bigger programs like photoshop and such will probably won't start.
