:  Location: Lithuania  |  Enrolment for Section 8 beta now open  SouthPeak has opened registration for the Section 8 PC beta taking place this summer. Section 8, for those who aren't familiar, is a PC first-person shooter said to offer "unprecedented strategic control over the battlefield". Set in the distant future, it's about what happens when Earth's colonies start to revolt and the elite 8th Armoured Infantry troops are sent to shut them down. They're otherwise known as Section 8, a nickname based on the old military regulation which saw soldiers classed as unfit for duty due to mental instability. They've got powered suits of armour and a lot of courage, dropping directly into the battlefield from 15,000 feet. If you've got the guts and mental instability required you can sign up for the beta at JoinSection8.com. Section 8 will be released for PC and Xbox 360 later this year. "It's a very rigorous selection process. Nobody is just picked to go into the powered armour suits." Something tells me this premise might momentarily fall apart in the tutorial, as the new, rigorously selected players struggle to shoot a frog. But eventually players will "rise in the ranks," uncover the "true motivation" for the war, and probably teabag some mechs in multiplayer. You know how those professional Section 8 guys operate. : Location: Lithuania |  Section 8 to Support PC Hosting of Xbox 360 Servers  TimeGate Studios today announced that its upcoming shooter Section 8 will allow players to host Xbox 360 servers on PCs. The servers will support up to 32 Xbox players at once, resulting in one of the larger Xbox 360 multiplayer shooters. Without a dedicated server, Section 8 only supports 16 players on the console.   On the PC side, running the game on a dedicated server will allow for 40 players, with the max knocked down to 32 when moving to peer-to-peer. Section 8's multiplayer component is an ambitious team-based game that's receiving comparisons to Tribes--which is quite a compliment. : Location: Lithuania |  Section 8 delayed by a week  SouthPeak has told Eurogamer that multiplayer shooter Section 8 has suffered a minor delay. "The game is now being released on 11th September not 4th September due to a small delay in the manufacturing process," a spokesperson for SouthPeak told us. Do hope no one fell into DVD-pressing machine. Section 8 - for PC and Xbox 360 - has fighters drop into maps from a great height, allowing maps to be surveyed and tactics worked out on entry.
