Default NM's RPG FAQ

**Please post questions, answers, concerns, suggestions, criticisms, problems, and solutions in this thread!**

carbonicer and The One put together this outstanding FAQ for the MO* RPG. Feel free to post questions about the RPG in this thread. (And if you want to, feel free to rep the authors!)

*MO = before NM

Table of Contents (All information is subject to change)
1. Stats
2. Weapon Stat Explanation
3. Skill Point Explanation
4. FAQ
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Stats

HP aka Health points

Each point added increases your HP by 5 points.
This will increase your life span in battles.

MP aka Mana points
Each point added will increase your MP by 5 points.
This allows you to cast more magic.
If you are a mage and use magic often you will need to increase this because when your spells level up so does the MP cost of using the spell.

STR aka Strength
Each point added will increase your strength by 1 point.
You will require strength because this increases your weight capacity and then you can equip better armour/weapons/etc.
Strength also increases the damage you deal during battles.
Strength also aids the factor of escaping from battles!

DEF aka Defence

Each point added will increase your defence by 1 point.
Increasing defence allows you to receive less damage done by an enemy physically.
DEF does not lessen damage done by magic.

MAG aka Magic
Each point added to Magic increases your magic by 1 point.
Increasing magic allows you to deal more damage/effect with your spells.
Magic will also affect buffing/healing spells in the same manner as offensive spells.

MAG DEF aka Magic Defence
Adding 1 point into MAG DEF will increase it by 1.
The more magic defence you have, the more resistant you will be against ""Offensive"" spells
Mag def does not weaken the effect of supportive/healing spells.

SPD aka Speed
Increase SPD by 1 point and it will go up by 1.
More SPD means more turns in a battle, since this RPG is turn based (anyone who has played FFX will find this familiar).

The advantages in increased SPD is that you will have more turns to do whatever you choose in a battle.
This is particularly useful when you are facing a mass army of enemies. (:P anyone who has faced the wolves at Bellow Pass should know how important SPD is)

E.g. A person with 10 SPD would probably get his turns like this facing an enemy with 20 SPD

Attack Turn
Enemy
Enemy
Player
Enemy
Player
Enemy
Enemy

While a 20SPD person facing a 20SPD enemy would probably get this

Attack Turn
Player
Enemy
Player
Enemy
Player
Enemy

DEX aka Dexterity

Like the other stats 1:1 increment.
DEX is basically your hit/miss ratio.
The more DEX you have, the higher chance of landing a hit on an enemy.
Your hit probability will also depend on the enemy's EVA.

E.g. You have 30 DEX while a monster has 200 EVA...(pretty sure there was one XD) it's EVA is very high so its obviously very hard to hit.
No DEX can be like 10% hit chance!!
So DEX is good for melee fighters!
This only affects your physical attacks with weapons. It does not affect your spell accuracy as they have their own accuracy. (Each spell is different)

EVA aka Evasion
1:1 stat increment.
EVA will increase your chances to evade physical attacks from enemies.
The Evasion probability will also depend on the opponent's DEX.
EVA does not increase your chance of missing Magic spells, because they have their own accuracy - scan/check the spell to see the accuracy.

~~~~~It also seems that whatever stat point you add to whatever stat you choose
will also add some HP!!! ^^ Bonus weird thing!
Though as soon as you remove that stat point it will go back down,
so don't be thinking you'll be able to constantly play around with the points to get more HP XD~~~~~
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
2. Weapon Stat Explanation
Strength
STR Only affects Weapons, it does not affect armour and any non offensive item
I had 5 base points in STR and went and tested how the damage works. Equipping only one at a time the results came out like this:
A "Rusty Shortsword" with 3 STR dealt damage around
0~9
A "Shank" with 75 STR dealt damage around 30~55
From this you can see how the 75 STR Shank has been more useful then a 3 STR Rusty Shortsword.
Defence
After being naked then fully loaded with armour and all... the verdict is that the defense stat shown is basically ignorable.
I had 5 base points in DEF and tested how armour works.
A naked me received damage ranging from
8~17
While a fully equipped me received damage ranging from 7~18
From this you can see that armour and the DEF stat shown does not affect your real defense.
The reason you wear defensive equipment is because most of them have been "modified" Usually with +HP or +EVA.
Customise
This currently has been disabled in the RPG
Modifiers
This is where you can view to see if your equipment has anything modified to it.
Modified weapons usually are ones bought from shops, so 'scan' them before buying ;)
This is different from enchantment as enchantments are made by yourself while modifications are predone.
Enchant
So far there is the only enchantment "Lighten You Load" which is pretty useless..
To understand how the concept of enchantment works u look at your weapon.
My inventory---->[dagger, staff etc]
Name: Shank
Strength: 75
Defence: 75
Weight: 40
Enchant:
75
See the enchant, that is basically how many points there are for enchanting.
All enchanting spells requires the weapon to have a certain amount of enchantment points.
The "Lighten Your Load" spell requires 50 enchantment points.
The Shank currently has 75 enchantment points and therefore it has enough to gain the "Lighten Your Load" enchantment.
75-50 = 25 (after using Lighten Your Load enchantment)
Now the shank is lighter but left with 25 enchantment points!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
3. Skill Point Explanation
Alchemy
Increase Alchemy points to be able to mix better potions together to form greater potions!
Welding
Welding is for when you combine components to use afterwards.
In the making of a weapon, welding is probably handy when you make the weapon itself.
Currently there are no tools so, no use for welding thus far.
To combine components, a tool is also necessary XD
(this is what I think it does, from my experience with the RPG, if it isn't so please do tell)
Edit: This is the same skill as "Crafting" that enchantments can require... --tfoo
Arcane
Increase Arcane points to be able to use stronger and greater spells
Combat
Increase Combat points to be able to use Attack skills, stronger Skills would require you to have higher combat points
Taming
Increase Taming points so it makes it pets easy to control and quicker to be obedient and easier to control stronger pets.
4. FAQ
  1. How do I create my character?
    To create a character:
    -Firstly click the "RPG" button located at the top of the bar.
    -From there click "Edit RPG Profile" and then fill out the fields.
    -After you have done this click "Modify RPG Profile" and there you have a newly created RPG Character.
    (Note: When you have started the RPG you can always change the fields on that page; this will not reset your character.)
  2. What location should I start in?
    The best place to start in is called "Slempik Pasture." This is where everyone should start.
  3. What should I do there before going anywhere else?
    When you start you should have at least 50 gil. Check the shops around town by looking at "Available Places" when you are in a town.
    (This menu is located top right in a town. You click the name of the place you want to go to then click "Visit.")
    I would suggest you buy a weapon as soon as you find a weapons shop and then equipping it (click 'My Inventory,' select weapon, click 'Equip').
    You might also want to buy a potion when you find a potions shop.
    You can also talk to the NPC's in town. (This menu is located bottom right in a town. To talk to NPC's, click person to talk to then click "Chat.") Talk to NPCs before deciding where to go next.
  4. Why did my gil amount go up even though I didn't fight any monsters?
    You get 5 gil for every post you make in the forum (not counting the shoutbox).
  5. What monsters should I fight first?
    Monsters you should fight first off are located near Slempik Pasture.
    There are bees and then frogs here which are great to battle for new players.
  6. What monsters should I avoid first?
    Avoid the wolfpacks in the Lupic and Bellow Passes until you are at least at level 10-12 or so. This is because they come in large (and I mean large) armies and it's like 1 versus 30. [Lol don't you feel like a Spartan when you able to kill so many by yourself?] Also, bears and Wizards can be deadly to inexperienced adventurers (talk to NPCs before wandering off to new locations!).
  7. How can I find out about a monster's stats without fighting it?
    If you are currently in an area where the monster is you can check by scanning it. (The menu is located in the middle right. Click on desired monster then go "scan.")
  8. What happens if I die?
    If you die in a battle you will lose a certain amount of gil on hand and then you will be out of the battle.
    When this happens you should go back to the world map and go back to a town which has an Inn so you can reheal.
    An alternative method would be to use a potion on yourself whence out of battle.
  9. Are there any healing potions I should get early on?
    It would be advised that you carry potions with you always.
    The early potions can be bought at the beekeeper's house and will restore your HP during battle.
    Since you would not have any strong spells yet, it would be advised that you carry only HP potions at the start of your journey in the RPG world.
  10. How do I get potions and weapons?
    Potions and weapons can be found throughout various towns.
    Browse through shops in towns to see what they sell.
    //Sometimes weapons can be dropped by certain enemies. <--no longer true lol
  11. How do I know if an item is any good before I buy it?
    All items prior to buying have a little magnifying glass icon.
    Click on that to scan the item and then it will be up to you to decide whether the item is good or not.
  12. How do I heal myself?
    There are various ways to heal yourself:
    -You can find a town and visit an Inn and pay a price to be healed completely (HP and MP)
    -You can heal during a battle with healing spells, once you acquire them (spells can only be used during battles)
    -You can use potions to heal yourself during battle or out of battle. (In battle: Items --> click on potion name; out of battle: My Inventory --> Potions --> Go)
  13. How do I go to another place?
    While in the World Map you will notice many icons.
    To travel to places via World Map, you just click on desired icon then "travel."
    Traveling via town interface etc, you will select a place from the "Available Places" Outside Area list and then travel.
    Traveling via town interface will allow you to go to places you can't reach when traveling via World Map.
  14. What is this "world map" thingy? It's empty!
    The "World Map" is basically your map and you get to pick where you want to go, providing that place has an icon there to travel to. Usually when you have visited a place, its icon is added to your world map.
    The World Map does take time to load so bear with it ;)
  15. What is a quest? How do I know if I'm on a quest? How do I acquire a quest?
    A quest is something you gain usually after talking to an NPC.
    There are usually rewards after completing a quest so go and hunt for quests by talking to NPC's ^^
    To check if you have a quest go into a town interface and then click on "Quest Log" to view quests.
  16. What is a pet? What does it do for me?
    A pet is basically an ally that will support you in battle.
    Pets cannot wield or equip any items but can learn magic.
    They are fully customisable to your liking and will level up like you do.
    First off pets might not respond to you as their obedience is low.
    The more successful commands you tell the pet to do the more the obedience rises.
    If you leave the pet dead and do not command it to do anything the obedience will drop again.
  17. What is "taming"? How do I get better at it?
    Taming is a skill required if you are to own a pet.
    Increasing this skill will increase the obedience of your pets and also make it easier to control stronger pets if your Taming skill is high.
  18. How do I use a spell?
    Firstly you need to buy a spell from shops.
    After buying the spell you need to equip it. (My inventory --> Spells --> Tick the "Equip" box)
    During a battle click Magic then select target, then Spell, then Cast!
  19. Hey! Every time I use this spell, it gets weaker! What's the big idea? Do all spells work like this?
    All Spells have different attributes. To check further you would need to scan your own spell to understand what's happening to it.
  20. What am I supposed to do when I level up?
    When you level up, you gain 5 attribute points and 2 skill points.
    You can restat your attributes as many times as you like, but you should carefully think where you put your skill points as they are permanent.
  21. What are the best stats to raise?
    This depends on your fighting style. Here are some builds which might give ideas ^^
    Attack based Melee: STR, DEX, SPD, HP, EVA
    Mage: MAG, MP, HP, SPD
  22. What are the best skills to raise?
    This also depends on your fighting style and what you will be using during battles.
    Currently Welding skill is not used, so
    -Taming if you are going to own a pet.
    -Arcane if you are going to be using Magic a lot.
    -Alchemy if you want to mix good potions.
    -Combat if you want to be able use "Attack Skills."
  23. How do I form a party with other players? Can I form a party with any player?
    To form a party with other people, you must all be together in a place where you can form a party (usually in town).
    The level limit between the highest and lowest player is 5 levels apart (i.e., a level-10 player can't be in a party with a level-16 player).
    From there one person initiates inviting people into the party. The RPG shouts interface is extremely useful here.
    The other people should receive an invite which appears near your HP, MP status.
    After accepting into the party (party members DO NOT LEAVE AREA), the leader should go to desired boss battle/place via the town interface and the rest of the members should automatically follow. You all battle the monsters together at this point!
  24. What's an enchantment? What can I enchant? Where do I do this?
    An enchantment is used to enhance certain abilities of equipment.
    All equipment can be enchanted provided they have enough enchantment points.
    Enchantments can be done at any Altar (look for them).
  25. Why isn't my enchantment working?
    This is probably because the equipment you want to enchant does not have enough enchantment points.
  26. What's a bank? Why should I put my money there?
    It's a place where you can store/withdraw money or give money to other people(!!).
    A bank is a great investment because they give you daily interest.
    A bank is helpful especially when you have a lot on hand because if you happen to lose a fight, a portion of your money on hand (not in the bank) will be lost.
    This also happens if you flee a battle.
    By putting money in your bank you won't be losing a major amount of your money because it's safe in the bank ^^ (depending on the capabilities of the bank's guard).
  27. Should I try to rob a bank?
    By all means if you feel daring, go try to rob the bank but be prepared to be suspended for 3 hours or so from playing the RPG after the battle.
    The suspension is the jail basically but you won't be recorded into the "failed robbery attempts."
    The bank guard at Slempik Pasture (the bank is called "Under My Mattress") has an insane level and from personal experience I survived for 5 turns before getting suspended ("thrown in jail").
  28. What's an "attack type"? How do I use it?
    An attack type is basically a physical skill which does not require MP but requires ADR (adrenaline)
    You get ADR each time you do a successful physical attack against an opponent.
    At each new battle the ADR begins at 0.
    You firstly need to buy the attack skill then you are able to use it in battles.
    You may fumble using the skill to begin with because your compatibility with it may not be high enough, but each successful usage increases compatibility rating.
    Each attack skill differs in what they do so scan them before buying and see if you will use it or not.
Feel free to post questions and answers in this thread!
You can equip one tinker's dagger per hand. But you can't equip more than one tinker's sword, total (the other hand can carry a certain type of shield). Other weapons may have different characteristics.
To get to Wrath Falls, you have to go another way around.
