Coordinators/Newtypes Explanation

Coordinator- A human being whose mental and physical abilities have been enhanced through genetic engineering. Coordinators learn more quickly than normal humans, and their bodies are stronger, faster, and virtually immune to disease. Due to these differences, they have often been viewed with jealousy and mistrust by unmodified "Naturals". In recent decades, a worldwide ban on genetic modification and a rising tide of anti-Coordinator sentiment have driven most of Earth's Coordinators to relocate to the orbital settlements known as PLANTs.

The genetic modifications that create a Coordinator can be performed only in the earliest stages of embryonic development. However, these genetic enhancements are then passed on to the Coordinator's children. When normal parents have their children turned into Coordinators, the children are described as first-generation Coordinators, whose own children will then be second-generation Coordinators, and so forth. Coordinators include, but are not limited too; Kira, Athrun, Yzak, Lacus, etc.

Newtypes are virtually the same as coordinators except that they are born with these "abilities" without any history of genetic modifications. The only two Newtypes that I am aware if are Mwu and Klueze. They were first introduced in U.C. Gundam.

SEED Concept (Brief)

The "SEED" refers a state of mind. Berserkers, those who are meant only to do battle, when they go to fight will often enter into a "berserk" mode. This is the "SEED". When this happens, their full fighting potential is unleashed, making them a grave force to be reckoned with.

Earth Alliance/O.M.N.I. (Oppose Militancy & Neutralize Invasion) Enforcer

Kira Yamato
Kira, 16, is the hero of our story and the only member aboard the Archangel capable of piloting the Strike GUNDAM. A Coordinator, he finds himself among Naturals and is subject to many trials and tribulations.

Murrue Ramius
Ramius, 26, is a captain in the Allied Space Forces and a Natural. She is a beautiful woman with firm resolve, one that all but masks her kind-hearted nature.

Natarle Badgiruel
Badgiruel, 25, is a first lieutenant and Archangel tactical advisor. She is the ultimate soldier whose duty takes top priority. This hard-fisted single-mindedness ends up saving the Archangel time and again. Badgiruel loathes Coordinators.

Mwu La Fllaga
Mwu is a Natural, one born without the paranormal abilities found in Coordinators, and is an ace pilot of the Alliance (one of two "newtypes)". La Fllaga is the only pilot capable of controlling the laser-guided gun-barrel mounted in the Zero. Onboard Archangel, he is like an older brother to Kira and the crew.

Flay Allster
Allster, 15, is one of our heroines. A Natural, she has enjoyed the lifestyle of the beautiful and idolized. She is conscious of her popularity and works hard to maintain it.


ZAFT (Zodiac Alliance Freedom Treaty)

Athrun Zala
Athrun, 16, is the other hero of our story. A Coordinator who lost his mother in an atomic attack by the Earth Alliance Army, he was close friends with Kira in their younger days. Zala pilots the hijacked Aegis GUNDAM.

Raww Le Klueze
Raww, 28 years old, is Athrun and the others' direct superior. He pilots the MS CGUE with such skill that tales of his prowess echo in the halls of friends and enemies alike. He is a person of many mysteries, not the least of which is his face--it remains ever hidden beneath a mask, and none have looked upon his true features.

Yzak Jule
Yzak is a 17 year old second generation Coordinator. He detests the opposition to intellectual advancement and political reform that is the trademark of Naturals. His genetic makeup is second in excellence to Athrun's, which fills Isaac with terrible envy. Yzak pilots the Duel GUNDAM.

Nicol Amarfi
Nicol, 15, is also a second generation Coordinator. He has a kind heart and holds a much more moderate view towards Naturals. He looks up to Athrun as a big brother. For him, battle is a kind of game where the only goal is to improve efficiency. He pilots the Blitz GUNDAM.

Dearka Elthman
A 17 year old second generation Coordinator, Elthman holds the radical view that Naturals should be wiped out. He is good friends with Isaac. Elthman is somewhat high-strung and can he quite brutal. He pilots the Buster GUNDAM.

Mobile Suit Description:
A completely basic mobile suit, the GAT-X102 Duel GUNDAM's only redeeming feature is the added combat armor labelled an "assault shroud," in which it gains great protection at a cost in mobility and increase in mass. The armor's dead weight is balanced in the addition weaponry it sports, such as the railgun and missile pod. Supplemental thrusters are also included in the extra armor package. While the general attitude towards the Duel GUNDAM is that it is inferior to its other GUNDAM counterparts, its performance still far exceeds other mass production mobile suits on the battlefield and its total firepower is substantial. The Duel GUNDAM's main operation is more defensive than that of the other Gundam in the GAT series, although it is fully capable of taking an offensive role as well.

Mobile Suit Description:
The GAT-X103 Buster GUNDAM serves its primary role as artillery support. It carries no handheld weapons, instead it mounts two large bore backpack weapons deployed under each arm. As backup, there are twin missile pods on each shoulder. The Buster GUNDAM is heavily armed and more armored than the other GUNDAMs, save Duel GUNDAM in Assault Armor mode. On its pelvis, Buster GUNDAM has additional sensors and targeting equipment. The sheer firepower of this GUNDAM far exceeds the others.

Mobile Suit Description:
While the Buster GUNDAM is the long-range GAT series GUNDAM, on the other end of the spectrum is the GAT-X207 Blitz GUNDAM. The Blitz GUNDAM is a speedy and streamlined close-combat specialized GUNDAM. Featuring a claw-like forearm weapon and a shield packed with various weapons, the Blitz GUNDAM is unmatched in CQB with other mobile suits. The Blitz GUNDAM also employs a device called a MIRAGE COLLOID, which allows it to become temporarily transparent and invisible to radar.

Mobile Suit Description:
Possibly the most advanced GUNDAM thus far in the GAT series, the GAT-X303 Aegis GUNDAM is unique in that it has a transformation and then a subtransformation under that. The basic mode is mobile suit mode, but the Aegis GUNDAM can transform to a mobile armor mode in a period of less than 1.35 seconds. The mobile armor mode has two forms: normal cruising mode and attack mode. The Aegis GUNDAM is also unique in that all armaments are attached to the mobile suit itself via hardpoints. The mobile suit can operate hands-free and still have the basic handheld beam cannon and shield available within easy reach. The Aegis GUNDAM functions as the most offensive of the GAT series.

Mobile Suit Description:
ZGMF = ZAFT GUNDAM Maneuver Fighter. The first of two GUNDAM-type mobile suits developed by ZAFT. Equipped with a CIWS and the same Lacerta beam sabers as on the Freedom GUNDAM, as well as the neutron jammer canceller system which allows for the use of a nuclear reactor powerplant. The main power of the Justice GUNDAM comes in the form of a large backpack weapon platform which can be used as a mobile suit sub-flight lifter platform for aerial flight.
