Yeah, he def. should use CS3 or CS2 (there's not really a 'huge' difference between the two, imho).
If your comp can keep up with them, go for it.. =}

more a matter of ram available...needless to say that i don't have the slightest idea about how to use photoshop and only got it to get really confused with all the options^^

Totally true, about the RAM. =] I used to have problems with CS2 on my old comp. The thing crashed every 5 minutes.
Btw, I'll teach you the ways of photoshop, if you let me!
