Re: Say, did anyone hear about this?
don't forget that the media also likes to make things seem a certain way so they can sell it...
we may not know the complete story... the media is FOR SURE not always 100% right... and if anything they're more like 70% right most of the time. if it's one thing i've learnt from the media, is that their top goal is to MAKE MONEY not give the news =p but yes, i'm sure this kind of garbage happens around the world. |

Are they idiots? they can send their daughters to the hospital and then pray for her. Yet, they let their daughter die just because of their faith. Now, what are they gonna say? "It is God's will"? I felt pity for that little girl.

Re: Say, did anyone hear about this?
It is good if you believe in something, but it is bad if your belief clouds your judgement, actually if you ask me they are the worst off, they probably never will forgive them self to let this happen.
But who knows some are so fanatic that they will say god wished so, so i have no right to change it. Now those are the ppl who have to be shoot. ;)

That's not to much if you ask me. I mean if everyone only would pay money for killing then the rich ppl would murder thousands.

Re: Say, did anyone hear about this?
The thing that really ticks me off here isn't just that the parents did the wrong thing, but that they thought they were doing the right thing. If Christians would stop focusing on miracles so much and start focusing on the real purpose of their religion they wouldn't do these things. Jesus didn't promise physical life, health, comfort, money, or any of that and trying to ask him for it, even using the knock-on-the-door-till-midnight method, doesn't mean he'll give into them. The way I heard it is that the real purpose of prayer is to ask God for what he's already going to do anyway. That is, if he is going to kill her, ask him to bless her death, if he wants her to live, ask him to bless her life.
Besides that, there was the thing about the Sabbath, and if somebody falls in a hole then you should stop praying and help him. There was also the thing about the coat and Jesus saying don't ask God to give a man a coat if you have one that you can give him. Which may be a really bad comparison because of the gravity of the kid's situation, but may parallel it. Yeesh, sorry for being wordy.
KY JOE. Proper lubrication is the other half of the battle.

Re: Say, did anyone hear about this?
This reminds me of a book I read last year called "The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down" by Anne Fadiman (true story). It about a Hmong family who youngest dauther has severe case of epilepsy where the doctors and family fight against one another for the well being of Lia Lee and how they should treat her. This all happen in the 1980s where the Hmong left Laos as refugees and some came toward the US to settle, but these group of people were very protective toward their culture and people. Thus Lia was neglected of medical treatment by her parents believing that they were doing the right thing by using herbs or shamans. But they did tried sending her to the hostipal at first and at time when her condition became severe. The similarities between this case and that of the christian family is that the both parents believed they were doing the right thing and with both ending with the same results. The only difference though is that Lia parents had a cultural and language barrier between them and the doctors, as well as they used both their traditional religion and western medicine to help Lia.
Sorry for the long message, but I wanted to point out a similar case in which religion and culture can affect how people are treated for health problems. But for the little christain girl there are some unsolved question, such as where was the goverment involvement in her health since a parent can't denied a child medical treatment (this did happen in the book as well). Such a offend is punishable by law in the United States, I don't know the punishment but I do know that only an adult whos 18 can refuse medical treatment, not a child. Also what parent would stand there and not help her daugther if she ill? Any one would have the idea of taking her to a hostipal if she wasn't feeling well, reguardless of religion. All I have to say is that they are no parents, but instead heartless being who had to watch their poor child die in front of them. |
