Re: Your biased music opinions:
I don't think music, like death metal, influences how I act...I can see that maybe to some people, like real young kids...it would probably influence them to do things that a kid their age wouldn't normally think of. This is more-so with death metal though...I don't see how any lyrics from bands like Metallica, Pantera, or even Marilyn Manson can influence a kid to do violent things. (Maybe be depressed in Manson's case.)
But of course, the parents don't know any different...think it's all the same, 'cause they really don't know...don't take the time to know...but IMO, there's a big difference in lyrics like Metallica's "Enter Sandman" and from Cannibal Corpse's "I Cum Blood". |

Re: Your biased music opinions:
music affects the way i act yea. but only while i'm listening to it. like if i'm listening to classical music it makes me more relaxed. rock music gets me pumped for when i work out. and dance music, well it makes me want to dance... but i mean i've never listened to "angry" music and suddenly think OMG i need to kill someone RIGHT NOW. i mean come on.... how does that even work?

Re: Your biased music opinions:
I always figured it's simple. People with particular leanings gravitate towards certain things. If a kid is raised thinking that rock 'n' roll is evil, when he wants to rebel, he's going to go to it. If he REALLY wants to rebel, he's going to intentionally try to make it seem more evil. That just fuels the next generation of morons pointing to HIM and saying it's evil, and so on and so forth.
Even if there are a lot of people who genuinely like thrash, speed metal, or what have you - just because they really like it musically, you can't deny that there'll also be people who come to it specifically BECAUSE they've been told that it was evil, and really want that to be true. It's sort of a self-fulfilling thing. Music doesn't make people become evil - but certain types of music will hold a special attraction for people who are already inclined to behave in a certain way. |

Re: Your biased music opinions:
I believe that music does influence how you behave, however not directly, as music can change your mood for better or worse, so when someone tells me music can make people violent, I say yes it can, however I would also say that music can also make people less violent , genre of the music has very little to do with what effect it has on everyone, just what effect it has on individuals

Quote:
Now, there are some people who would hold that the words are irrelevant, that the music itself is evil. You know, the people who were parents in the 70's. Anyway,Satanism is a term thrown around by a lot of people today, but just because a person invokes the name of the devil or advocates sin does not make them a Satanist. Satanists of today are largely people who don't want to accept any outside authority and please themselved in the utmost. Now, Satanism of Biblical times is another issue! As to my views on music, I would say that most claims of Satanism or evil in music are ridiculous. I'm surprised that people can still jump on metal for that, but they do. Most of the early claims of Satanism in metal were unfounded. The only musician I can think of who comes close to being a "Satanist" would have ot be Marilyn Manson, as he is very open in his hate for the Church and Christianity. Even then, he tends to mix his stage persona into his real life a little too much, so it's not always obvious when he's putting on a show or not. Personally, I just don't feel the day is complete until I listen to Slayer. Fun fact: Thier lead singer, Tom Araya, is actually a devout Roman Catholic. |
