fail. i can create animated sigs with AE but when i render em. they just loop once. and then stop =/

@ness the trick is basically to have your comp set to twice the amount of time you want the final to be, split your particle system in half and make sure the birth rate drops to 0 at the midpoint, completely overlap the two halves and then change the work area to just that section.

I don't know if that made any sense - I find AE difficult to explain if I can't show what I'm doing visually at the same time, but hopefully enough clues make sense that you can figure it out.

If you just google for looping particle systems you ought to be able to find a tut about it.

added another. Just minimal animation on this one, was thinking back to my old shana avatar.. didn't quite turn out the way I'd imagined, but it's nice anyways.

Nice use of particles, are you using the default CC Particle World or are you using Trapcode Particular? I never really gave too much thought about with sigs too much, but it's a pretty good idea. I especially dig this one.

And to the person who was in need of the video tutorial (sorry this is a few months late) there is a decent one that shows how to loop using the method that toadvine had mentioned. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

@misaki: you can, but there's a pretty low chance that I'd actually get around to doing it... I'm really bad at requests

@naz: I use both, depending on the situation. There are some things each does better than the other. On the one that you liked I think it was cc particle world.
