I actually like dub some of the time simply for the fact that when you don't understand a language and watch sub, you cannot guage whether the acting is good and where and what they mean with emphasis on certain words. Also, I'm a migraine sufferer so I can't handle flashing images while reading. I will admit, some subs are better than dubs and some dubs are better than subs.

But one dub I think takes a beating by fans too much is Naruto. Yeah the voices suck, but have you seriously listened to the Japanese version? Naruto is just as annoying saying "dattebayo" and his voice has that same annoying rasp to it. Also in both version the kids all sound like they're 20 to 30 year olds. Overall, I think both voice overs of Naruto sucks, but that's just my opinion of course.

This is why I prefer manga, I can imagine their voices however I want and not have to hear the war between dub and sub. Because it is seriously just a silly little war. Anime is anime, and fighting wars over what you love and splitting it in half isn't very nice. Think of how the anime feels!

Yeah i watched pokemon and dragon ball z on cartoonnetwork in dub when i was little. but when i watch dub for things ive previously seen in Japanese its soo weird lol im pretty much anti dub these days

I chose "Not all dubs are bad", and that is only cause of 2 exceptions, being Dragon Ball Z and Beck. Goku in DBZ sounded like a girl in the subbed version, and people just failed HARD at beck when they attempt to speak english... I'm sorry, saying "what the fuck" with such an accent just isn't threatening anymore.

Other than that, I think dubs is a necessary evil. Without dubs, everything would be subbed, and we'd have no reason to fansub anime ):

I'm mearly just a forum hopper who's into anime.

I've ticked off NO simply because it'll take me twice as long to finish one fansub episode and I prefer eng dub.

For example; In an fansub episode, I'm watching whats actually taking place on screen. At the same time, I'm reading the subtitles and gauging the emotions in the actors voice. The subs appear and disappears too quickly so I have to re-wind then play alot of the time. Thats too much work for 200 plus episodes and takes away the fun of watching anime.

Some of you people make some good points about Eng dubbed anime and I fully understand but, I'm english, its the only language I understand, and I find it easier to watch anime in Eng Dub.
To put things simply, watching fansub anime feels like a chore after a while.


As I said before, I'm a forum hopper, and my flame retardant suit has evolved over a period time. Yah, I think it's best to put it on now!

At the end of the day, dubs actually allow a broader audience to access anime. Whether its done effectively (ie. dubbing) is a whole different story. Try to keep an open mind.

I have to agree that Cowboy Bebop, and Hellsing are more suited to english voices. also Berserk, the theme of the anime just seems more suited to english voices.

Not all dubs are bad, and I believe that I can enjoy some dubs. Through experience though I have come to realize that I enjoy the sub more. Even though I have come to enjoy Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star dubs, I would have liked the subs more.

The only thing I ever watched dubbed were Pokémon and Sailor Moon as a kid.. though I did DL some Pokémon episode admitedly... And I just can not stand the japanese voices in that one so have to watch it dub if I want to watch it by some weird chance.

I hate when they remove music. Japanese can't speak English. But Japanese can't be dubbed in English... I always watch in sub.. I also recommend to everyone to listen to first 30 lessons of Pimsleur Basic Japanese I, you will get to understand conversations in anime a lot better.
