Dub's suck if you ask em the names are changed aswell as many other things.. i think dubs simply rape the anime of his originality..

It's the attitude of certain anti-dub elements that bugs me, not the principle.
In most cases these are the same idiots who refuse to read manga with translated sound effects in them, and will always call characters by the Japanese pronunciation of their names - even if the characters do not HAVE Japanese names.

I have to say I MUCH prefer sub I've only found less then a handful of anime's where I think the English voice overs are any good.

Well, I just got FLCL, which up till now, I'd only heard in English. So, I decided to try the Japanese track.

It was terrible. The voice actors just seemed to read the lines with no inflection or feeling at all.

Maybe, in this case, the Japanese track was actually the dub.

Technically speaking, both the English and Japanese tracks are called dubs.

I would have to agree with you there. When you watch a dub of a show you usually lose most of the emotions from the characters.

Well, as Sueiza points out, all sound in anime is dubbed. The key thing is how good a job the people who dubbed the tracks did. In many cases, the English dub is done at a later time and produced by different people than the original dub. The quality of the result depends on how good each group does.

What I notice sometimes is that the English dub is "Americanized." That is, the team doing the English dub tries to make the anime more attractive to the US/Canadian market.

Maybe that sells more anime, but I feel it reduces the quality of the result.

On the other hand, when the English dub is produced by the same group as the Japanese, as in Cowboy Bebop, the original story comes through.

I just can't figure what the heck happened with FLCL. That is really weird!

Maybe what I was listening to was a commentary track.
