We Have a RIGHT!!
Hello all. Dred Lily here with a question to the masses of this site. Over the past few years, I've noticed that many series that have been released overseas here are only the most popular ones, or ones that have an extra abundance or merchandise. I, for one, am tired of having the companies who are translating and dubbing these shows have the idea that they KNOW what we want. It also goes along with the games. How many of you out there know about the Bebop PS2 game from a few years ago, or the Gohdannar game, or the old Slayers games? We, the fans, the ones who BUY these DVDs, and other products related to the shows, should have hearsay.
I have an idea to solve this though: Make polls on the distributor sites asking us the fans, what we'd like to be seen brought over. I mean, think about it: most of the time , we only get anime games in the form of the most popular series, like Naruto, or InuYasha, or FMA. but what about the lesser know shows like Ouran High, or maybe a little bit or Prince of Tennis, or hell, I'd even be happy with that Appleseed game. I'd like to know what the lot of you think about this, and what shows that have been fan subbed over the years, but never licensed, that YOU would like to see be released. This is Dred Lily, your blue furred anime enthusiast, and that's all I have to say about this. ((Yes I know it's from 2, >.> Just seemed fitting.))~ ^w^V |

Re: We Have a RIGHT!!
Ok, let me try to reply that...
As much as I understand, you would like to see more licenced and dubbed anime. However, first of all, you'd have to gather at least few thousands of votes to at least have a hope of accomplishing something. That's like whole active community of NM, as most of people are dirty leeches coming to download ero-stuff. Second of all, I hate dubs. Lots of people hate them as well, because most of companies screw original texts badly (so far I have seen only Mononoke Hime and Golden Boy dubbed well). I still watch stuff with dubs, athough very rarely. Third of all, I hate licences. I live in a country where its possible to find like 10% of what's available in USA. One anime DVD costs about 1/10 of the normal salary, so you have to be quite rich to buy them. Hell, I pay for my internet monthly as much as I'd pay for one DVD. I wouldn't want to look in someone's eyes and say "Hey, I wanted to help one person, I didn't think someone would have to sell their kidneys to watch anime". If there were free AND paid (for good quality) choices, I wouldn't mind, but companies always forbid the sharing of free subbed anime and only let people to get stuff with crap dubs, instead of making their product better. About the games - I'd be for translation of Japanese games and making games for not-that-famous anime shows. Sadly, game makers KNOW what people (and I) want. Its their job to know what people would buy. If anime game gets 30th place in the wishlists, it probably won't get translated no matter how much people would beg. Same with making not-that-popular games. You can always learn the language and translate them yourself, or ask other kind people to do it, but that's all you can do. Life sucks. Better get used to it till you get burnt.

True, subs are better and make more sense in most cases. However, when done right, a dub can be as good, even better, than the original audio. I was simply PO'd by the fact that companies tend to have that "We know what's best for you" kind of outlook on the anime distribution business. I simply feel that most people now these days will mostly look for things that blow up, have little to no plot, to make up plot as they go, but not too much that it detracts form the action on the screen. It's like they look solely for series that would fit someone who's attention span is shorter than the time it takes to blink. I'm a fan of lesser know shows, like "If I see you in My dreams" and "I My Me, Strawberry Eggs." They may now have the same blowing up and high speed action as other shows do these days, but they're just as good. I apologize in advance if I come off as simply whining or as a nuisance. Just needed to make my point. *gets off soap box* Thank you *bows, and leaves stage right*~ Dred Lily ^w^V |

Re: We Have a RIGHT!!
Oh come on. I didn't reply to bash you (I have a younger brother as my means of anger management). Sometimes I like watching "lesser known shows", athough time cuts in and I can't watch everything I would want to.
The problem is that your problem can't be solved by any means. I have no idea how to solve your problem, as the only help could be given by large companies. Sadly, they don't give s**t about what people wants, they only care about what majority of them want, no matter that "majority" is like 15% of people. So, unless you'd hack, uncover some big bosses dirty deeds and "ask for a favour", this won't happen. I want to say I'd like the system where dubs would be good and you'd pay for QUALITY. However, world doesn't turn around like I want, and I get dissapointed most of the times I try dubs. I'd love to concentrate on action rather that watch tiny lines on the bottom of my screen, but soi far I have seen very few quality dubbed shows. "Golden Boy", for example - I tried subbed version and it was way worse than dubs. Its not me kicking you, its companies that want money only because they can put their sticker on anime DVD. Oh, and one more thing - I know how you feel about general stupidity of humanity. Sometimes I watch TV, and though I'm not super genius, I think "What kind of retard would watch that? Where can I find something for my intelectual level?". Sadly, its not profitable to make content for 10% of the world's population (my IQ is ~146) and people nowadays mostly care about profit. Where did I say anything about whining?

Re: We Have a RIGHT!!
It`s not a bad idea, but I wonder how real it can gets. Translating games or anime series costs money, and if u had to choose which one u`d pick up I`m pretty sure it`d be the one who looks like it`d bring u the most profit. I really hates this kinda stuff, but unfortunately thins go like that - for now, at least. Good thing fansubs exist!

Re: We Have a RIGHT!!
u gotta keep in mind that companies dont give a shit about what the general public says or thinks so long as they keep raking in the cash. drop their sales and then u'll see a change.

Re: We Have a RIGHT!!
Why bring a lesser known series itn America, with about 4,000+ fans, than a WIDEPSREAD show that can easily be shown on T.V and make big profit. They aren't nessicarily putting these out just for anime fans. They want that money, and they are going to get it.
Now, on the dub thing, thats one of the problems. All I see is "DUBSSUCKRAWRSUBS!!!11!" from people. Yet, now everyone is scared, because Genon and Pioneer and gone. We complain about the dubs and the subs and we don't buy the product, the companies lose money and close down. Did you forget about the fact that there are subs on a disk? I've heard that paying for cable in Japan is expensive, and DVD's and such over there are much more expensive than they are here. It is cheeper to buy anime in America. Fansubs are illegal, you know. I belive that if the compainies had more money, smaller, lesser known series could be licenced. But, I think it is becomming harder and harder to licence a series in America. It is becoming much more expensive. Why not help the companies out, and toss away the fansubs of Bleach. Just my 2 cents.

Re: We Have a RIGHT!!
With the exception of a few anime, most licensed anime have horrible dubs as compared to the original ones.
eg Maburaho JP dub sounds good/ok while the English one makes my ears bleed. Furthermore as stated above licensed anime become much more difficult to acquire via the web as opposed to non licensed ones because the companied drop the hammer on any one who is distributing their products without their consent. |
