Re: opinions of vista?
Vista has both good points and bad points. So far my version seems to be as stable as XP SP2 (or 3 depending on which you use). However it doesn't support a lot of the older sofware/hardware you probably have. However for software emulators and virtual PC's seem to provide a excellent solution so far.
There are some things I would like to see disappear as soon as possible. One of them is that certain directiories on your HD can't be accessed manually no matter if you have administrator rights or not (the only thing that can edit these files is the windows installer which actually has more rights then the administrator :| ) which can be a pain in some cases. One of these folders contains all DLL files meaning you can't just replace a DLL that doesn't work manually.
It has a lot of security popups whenever you try to open downloaded files, installers and remote files in addition to those of any anti virus you might be running. Meaning that if you open a file you just downloaded with firefox in the download menu you'll be asked 3 times if you're sure you want to open the file :(
Still you can expect that within the next few years a lot of software (especially games) will be vista only. Any minor problems will hopefully be taken care off in the first service pack but I'm not sure when that will be released.
