Re: Say, did anyone hear about this?
The thing that really ticks me off here isn't just that the parents did the wrong thing, but that they thought they were doing the right thing. If Christians would stop focusing on miracles so much and start focusing on the real purpose of their religion they wouldn't do these things. Jesus didn't promise physical life, health, comfort, money, or any of that and trying to ask him for it, even using the knock-on-the-door-till-midnight method, doesn't mean he'll give into them. The way I heard it is that the real purpose of prayer is to ask God for what he's already going to do anyway. That is, if he is going to kill her, ask him to bless her death, if he wants her to live, ask him to bless her life.
Besides that, there was the thing about the Sabbath, and if somebody falls in a hole then you should stop praying and help him. There was also the thing about the coat and Jesus saying don't ask God to give a man a coat if you have one that you can give him. Which may be a really bad comparison because of the gravity of the kid's situation, but may parallel it. Yeesh, sorry for being wordy.
