Maybe this will sound weird, but try to go to her whit some reason (not so pick up reason btw) thats always worked by me, i also feel myself awkward in the present of new ppl, if i don't have that reason then i let my partner chose the topics, and try to work whit it.

I would advice one stuff however, newer be an actor (if your act is an act and not yourself then sooner or later it will blow up into your face) so be yourself that's the best way to make good relationships.
