Ah, that was good for a laugh. While I have no doubt there's life outside of our solar system, this article was more fantasy than fact. In particular I doubt this was some alien intervention, or that the alien hero's portrait was left in crystal. Out of all the materials to survive an impact, crystal weaker than diamond is not something that will make it. Those unusually shaped quarts pieces were without a doubt formed during or after the impact. Their uncommon shapes are probably so uncommon because these were formed because of the impact.
