Re: Why members hide there real name
I do not see a problem with using a nickname or your real name...
I do notice that if I use my real name then allot of people have trouble saying it. While Pretmaker is sort of a nice name. It is not so hard to say it out loud. While in my country we had the following variations on my call name. (Sean)
(e is spoken as in bed)
Seen, Steen, Sien, Stien, Sean
So trust me I had all kind of names... you should have a dutch person say that name. and the variations... Then you will know why I do not use my real name for one thing. Next reason is that my real name would not be usefull to know. Why would you use your realname for this puprose. Imagine that you will meet some1 in RL. Then that person can better adres you with your nickname then your real name. Especially seeïng the customs in different countries.
In Japan we use the surname with an extra word behind it. Here in the Netherlands we just use the frontname if we know each other. But if we do not know each other as friends then we use the surname with meneer in front (mister). So becaus of the customs and complications endured with a real name it seems wiser to use a nickname.
Imagine that I am dining with you, and you would need the salt.
You will ask me for the salt. But how do you ask? Are you going to say:
Hey Sean, can you pass me the salt?
Hey mate, can you pass me the salt?
Excuse me mister .... , can you pass me the salt?
It does not make any sense to me. Especially since we all have our own customs concerning names.
But if we take Pretmaker for example.
Imagine saying the following.
Hey Pretmaker, can you pass me the salt?
Hey Pret, can you pass me the salt?
That is allot nicer. Since you do not use a real name. That does not confuse people allot who are worried about their customs...
Although you should still mind your customs offcorse... But if you have a few less customs then the more important ones that you should mind are less hard to keep in mind.
That is my theorie about nicknames eather way :)
