dvd rippers can be illegal in the US because of copyright laws but i dunno if that applies to ya. just an obligatory disclaimer.
I use altdo dvd ripper. while mine is paid for, there is a free trial available and the internet has lots of alternatives.
sometimes a dvd ripper will rip a dvd but the result is really messed up; this might be because of the copyright encryption on the disc. in that case, you will need a dvd ripper with a decoder (can also very illegal in the US but that might not apply to you). of course, the internet has many dvd decoders easily found, just watch out for the trojans. a perfectly legal program to do so is dvdidle, it decrypts, bypasses security checks and regions. However, it does not copy so you will need one of the previously mentioned programs to do so.
