I personally prefer yaoi. I am not sure about the bookstore but base on the availability of scanlation i think yaoi are more popular. It is easy to inderstand since yaoi often have good story development, better drawing style. On the other hand, yuri are often seen as a kind of hentai.

It's true that boys seem to be attracted to yuri but, as I say, they do not see them as yuri but hentai. Girl, however, can read both.
