Red to Kill is a HK Cat III classic that is as politically incorrect as it is disturbing and violent. The film stars Ben Ng as a completely “over-the–top” psychopath who has an obvious problem with the colour red…basically turning him into a raving lunatic. His violent sexual tendencies towards the attractive but mentally handicapped (Lily Chung) easily puts this film in the “tasteless and shameless” category.
There are two elements to this film that make is noteworthy…not necessarily good, but noteworthy. The first: Ben Ng is absolutely insane…an over the top wacko and he plays his role to the hilt…just thinking of him in those wicked hot pants slamming his sledgehammer from wall to ceiling and screaming his lungs out…it’s the performance of a life time and I hope I never have to see anything like it again. The second: Lily Chung plays a retarded inmate who loses her clothes faster than poop through a goose, and of course Ben Ng has a major infatuation for her. Tell me where in the rulebooks we are allowed to see psycho’s rape and terrify mentally handicapped women? I tell ya, this film has no limits, no shame and…well you just have to see it to believe it.
