Vb6 Re: 70% of Schoolgirls Rape Victims ?

The top post stated "Some 70% of Japanese girls are victims of sexual assault by the time they reach 18."

While sexual assault is a serious matter, it includes things like voyeurism and groping, as well as rape. So, this misleading title set me off at once.

The post continued by saying this was inconsistent with Japenese government and other statistics, but did not say what those statistics were. This seemed odd to me. If the figures are off, what are the right ones? Why are we talking about misleading figures?

So I tried to check it out, but it is hard to get any accurate figures because girls often do not report sexual assault. Also, in some cases, like voyeurism, they might not even know. At any rate, estimates I found in criminal justice papers ranged from five to 20 percent. That is, the actual assault rate could range from five to twenty times as high as the reported cases.

Putting that all aside. Even if the rate was only one percent. What if that one percent included your mother, sister or daughter? Would that be low enough?

It wouldn't be for me.

Now, don't get me wrong. Sex is great! But, great sex is when you are with a willing partner old enough to understand the situation.

My thought is that girls should carry permanent markers and mark up any hands they find in the wrong places. Let the weirdos try explaining that to their friends and families, if not the cops.

(Actually, my advice to my daughter was to break any fingers she found in the wrong places, but I appreciate the fact that the Japanese are far more polite than the Irish :-)
